Horses Montana Ranch Snow Work

First Montana Thaw and Website Updates

After the horrible winter weather we had in December, January was pretty mild. We had a couple below zero weeks, but there wasn’t any snow or wind or anything else that would be considered “bad weather.”

I finally was getting used to all the snow. I was hoping to get 3-6 feet drifts, like we got last January… and it starts to thaw… Normally it doesn’t thaw until March or April, but our south-facing hill has been without snow for weeks already.

I saw the sun setting and decided to take a ride up our hill to see what kind of pictures I could get.

In this first one you can see the Mission Mountains and a series of sledding paths that we created in December and January. 😉

Animals Montana Ranch Summer

July 4th 2008

This was a great Fourth of July. This was the first time in at least three years that I was not out at Camp Cherry Valley (CCV). We also had Mike Hedge from LA visiting us. Mike is a (very good) photographer, and he took more than 900 pictures while he was here. Here is what we did on the Fourth of July through Mike Hedge’s lenses:

Time to Hit the Lake

These last to weeks were HOT, and it was time to hit the lake. The lake is still in the 60’s (which is better than the Pacific Ocean right now). We loaded up the boat with 6 people and a baby, and went out. To say the least, it was kind of windy (at least 1 foot swells). But we were going with the wind and I wanted to go water skiing.

Ashton Water Skiing

And no one else wanted to get in the water, so I went for a quick run in the tube (emphasis on quick). I think I was on the tube for a minute before I finally got dropped out of the wake, and instantly flipped. =)

Ashton Tubing

It’s been very hot up here, so I’m sure it’ll be nice and warm very soon.
